StrikeForce: Lawler VS Shields

Posted on 29 May 2009

Tags: arlovski, lawler vs shields, MMA, Nick Diaz, strikeforce

And here we go folks!!! We have a brand new strike force show, and I’m going to break it down, hardcore gangsta style, in honor of Nick Diaz.   Da “209″ representing!! So lets get to it ladies, So to date, my record for picking fights across the board has been 11 winners - 4 losers, however the last strikeforce event, i went 5 for 5, and i know i will do it again here. before I cream in my pants and ruin another pair of clothes lets get this started.jake

lawler-Robbie Lawler (16-4; #2 Middleweight in the World)* vs. Jake Shields (22-4-1; #4 Welterweight in the World)* in a 182-pound bout

This is a very interesting fight; you have 2 of the best guys in each of their weight classes, clashing in a main event fight.  Lawler, who’s a very good middleweight fighter, is coming off a win against Scott Smith, a little under a year ago.  Lawler, who was the middleweight champion of the now defunct EliteXC MMA company, is a solid fighter with a great background. As of late Lawler has hit his stride, he’s beaten, in just his last few fights Frank Trigg, and Murilo Rua, both guys are top 10 fighters. Of his 16 wins, 13 are by KO, with just 1 win coming by submission, however, of his 4 losses, 3 are by submission, which brings us to his opponent. Jake Shields, Shields is a manimal, part snake part human.  He is destructive on the ground, pulling off some of the most absurd submissions in the game right now. Shields trains with Nick&Nate Diaz, so you know he’s got some solid training partners.  9 of his 22 wins are from submission; he’s beaten his last 11 guys, and hasn’t lost since 2004.  With all that being said, this is still a tough fight, Shields is coming in as a lighter fighter moving up, it shouldn’t play to big of a part, but still something to be considered.  I’m a little bummed that this fight won’t be for a title, however since it’s not both guys should stay pretty fresh for the 3 rounds, I think Lawler has an advantage if he can keep it standing, but i doubt he  will.  Should be a great fight as the main event.

Winner: Jake Shields by 2nd round submission

-Nick Diaz (19-7) vs. Scott Smith (15-5)

Here it is Stockton natives, the fighter you look forward to.  Nick Diaz is coming off a very, very impressive win over MMA legend Frank Shamrock.  Diaz who’s always a colorful fighter is riding a 4 fight win streak right now, all by way of TKO. He’s making a very quick turn around, fighting just 2 months ago.   Diaz has shown some mental improvement over the past year or so, and it seems like he’s on the right track to take fighting seriously, but this should be a great test of that. Smith, who is a good fighter, but never known as a great, is coming into this fight to make a name for himself.  If he can beatDiaz, he will be well on his way to fighting for the title again.  Smith, known as “hands of steel” has 13 KO’s to his 15 win record, so he will be trying to knock Diaz clean out.  Smith is training with a GREAT group of guys up in Sacramento so he will be well prepared for what Diaz has to show.  Personally I think Smith CAN pull off the upset in this fight; he will have to keep it standing. If Smith can “bait” Diaz into playing his game, which shouldn’t be hard because Diaz is known to be very stubborn, he has a shot here.  All things considered, I think Diaz will take this fight, Smith is coming off 2 months rest as well, but his fight was a war, and I think he will be much more worn down than Diaz will.

Winner: Nick Diaz by 3rd round TKO

brett-rogers-09
arlovski450-Andrei Arlovski (15-6) vs. Brett Rogers (9-0)

Oohhhhh boy, this fight has got fireworks all over it.  Andrei is coming off a devastating KO loss to the best fighter in MMA, Fedor.  He is rebounding with this fight on very short notice, Andrei is taking this fight with only 1 month to train, bad sign.  Arlovski is a former UFC champion, and has been around the block.  11 of his wins are by KO, and believe you me, he can stand and bang.  Arlovski is actually being trained by the same guy who trains Manny Pacquio.  Arlovski throws retardedly good combinations, and has KO power in his fists and Knee’s.  Rogers is an interesting fighter, He’s a young guy with great upside. So far all we have seen of Rogers is his stand-up, and it’s been great. All of his 9 wins are by punches. We don’t know what his ground game looks like, but I would imagine its leaves something to be desired.  Rogers is a guy who’s trying to break into the top 10 of Heavy Weights, and this is his big shot.  With Arlovski coming off a heartbreaking loss, his mind may not be in the right place for this fight, he’s also been known to have a suspect chin.  Rogers is so inexperienced that Arlovski should have his way with him in all aspects of this fight.  However, If Rogers can land 1-2 solid shots on Arlovski, he could knock him out.  This fight is about Skill VS heavy fists.  I think skill wins it this time, but if the odds are right, take Rogers, he could pull an upset.

Winner: Andrei Arlovski by 2nd round KO.

joe-riggs-Joe Riggs (29-10) vs. Phil Baroni (13-10) baroni

This fight is the Underperformer VS the underachiever. Joe Riggs, is a solid MMA fighter, he’s been bounced around and pawned off on us fans as a great fighter. The only thing really great about Joe Riggs is that he used to fight Heavy Weight, and looked like a school bus, then lost the weight and moved to fight at the lower classes. He is an evenly talented fighter, with 14 wins by KO and 13 by submission.  Riggs has never put together a streak worth mentioning in his career, and has lost to the better fighters he’s faced. Baroni was the talk of MMA just a few short years ago; he was being talked about as a solid up a coming MMA fighter. However he ran into the brick wall of life.  After losing 4 in a row the UFC cut him. Baroni then headed overseas to fight, beating a couple named opponents.  Baroni has never lived up to the hype that surrounded him, however his past 3 fights have given the impression he may have finally turned the corner.  I think this fight will be Baroni trying to knock out Riggs, while Riggs trades blows and attempts takedowns.  Riggs is the more rounded fighter as well as the younger fighter, but Baroni has that KO power.  This fight could be over quick, or go the distance, either way I think Riggs takes this fight.

Winner: Joe Riggs by KO in the 2nd.

kevin-randleman-of-ufcmike_whitehead
-Kevin Randleman (17-12) vs. Mike Whitehead (23-6)

Randleman is well past his fighting prime. The man is coming up on 40 years old. He’s an old school wrestler who grinds out decision wins.  He is a veteran of both the UFC and of over sea’s Pride Fighting Championship.  Randleman has amazing amounts of experience, fighting the best in the sport, including, Fedor, Shogun Rua, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Bas Rutten,  Rampage Jackson, & Mirko Cro Cop, funny thing, is he lost to ALL of those guys. However, it goes to show that he doesn’t duck fighters.  Mike Whitehead is a young fighter with a good record against a lot of subpar opponents. Whitehead has beaten up on the lesser guys for a while now; he’s a submission wiz, with 13 of his 23 wins coming that way.  Whitehead is a mid tier fighter who hasn’t had to fight any top 10 level opponent yet.  With all that being said, he is a much younger fighter than Randleman, and probably a stronger, more well rounded fighter as well.

Winner: Mike Whitehead by unanimous decision.

MMA vs Boxing

pacquiao

Alright all you boxing fans, bring your hate here and I will squash you.  Contrary to what you may think, this is not going to be an article bashing Boxing left and right, I will bash boxing, a lot, but I understand its place in history.  The simple fact is that boxing has passed its prime, people have been making excuses for boxing for a long time now, and I’m fed up with it.  Let us begin…

MMA is 1 million times better than boxing.  For starters, in boxing you have 20 different sanctioning bodies. That means if I fight at Light Weight, and I hold the WBO title, there is probably 12 other little midgets running around with a Light Weight title of their own.  That is bullshit, that’s why boxing has been in the decline since the 90′s.  The simple fact that they have watered down the sport of boxing to a point where you don’t even know who is really the champ, shit I’m looking at the champions right now, and there is 5 different guys. BULL SHIT, you have 1 champ, bottom line, fuck all this “little kid soccer” mentality, everyone doesn’t get a god damn trophy.  Now, in MMA, you can have different champions, but there is only one champion per organization, and since right now the UFC is the NFL of mixed martial arts, their isn’t really any discussion around someone else being much better than whoever is their current champion.

Next reason why boxing blows my chode, to much relies on a boxer’s record.  Has anyone actually paid attention to what’s going on with records in boxing?  Lets take the fight that just happened this past weekend, Manny Pacquiao VS Ricky Hatton,  Manny, who’s record is 49 – 3, pretty good record in boxing yeah? Ricky Hatton, who’s record is 45 – 2.  Now Manny knocked Hatton out cold in Saturdays fight, and they are predicting Hatton should retire.  Ok, what? I’m sorry, Hatton has 2 losses, 1 to the number ranked Boxer (Mayweather) and the 2nd just happened.  This is what pisses me off about boxing, you have a guy who has only lost twice, to the 2 best boxers in the world right now, and he should retire? The kid is in early 30′s still probably has anothgsper 5 years to box, but yet, he losses twice and he’s garbage? HORSESHIT! None of this even includes that boxers fight losers for there first 20 matches, they are being fed guys to pad their stats. Boxing is gay because they push guys out for losing 1 fight.

In MMA, you have a guy like George St. Pierre who’s 1 of 3 guys who are talked about as the best in MMA, has a record of 18 – 2, 1 of his losses was to  a guy who wasn’t even ranked.  Basically a lucky shot clipped him wrong. Now if this was boxing Georges St. Pierre, would be asked to retire because he lost to a lesser fighter, and we would have missed out on him becoming one of the greatest of all times, to that I spit in the face of boxing fans, SPIT I SAY!

MMA is better than boxing for one important reason. Freak show fights.  That’s right baby, there is nothing better than a MMA freahong-man-choik show fight.  Boxing doesn’t have anything like this, unless you count celebrity boxing, wjosehich I don’t because I’m not a faggot.  Anyways, Freak show fights over in Japan are a staple of MMA shows, you can have a 9 foot tall Korean man fighting a Kick boxer, and it’s great.  Hell the perfect example is a show over in Japan, the company is called Dream, and they are having one of the greatest freak show fights ever.  It’s going to be a 7 foot tall “rapping Korean kick boxer” who’s name is Hong Man “the techno Goliath” Choi against Jose Canseco.  Yeah that’s right, Jose Canseco bitch’s.  The same Jose that spilled the beans on baseball.  Apparently Canseco has claimed he is a marital arts expert, so he’s been training, and he’s got his first fight over in Japan.  Do I really need to go on?

mma-bloodbaths1I’d like to take a second and address the MMA haters out their.  I hear the complaint a lot that MMA is barbaric and that there is no skill involved, like the sweet science of boxing.  Fuck you, MMA takes a whole different level of commitment than boxing ever could.  I would venture to guess, and by guess, I mean tell you I’m right, that  mixed martial arts requires even more technique  than boxing, not only do you have to worry about getting punched in the face, you have to protect against take-downs, or elbows, or knee’s and kicks.  Seems to me if you apply simple math to this, you’d be able to say, more skills in an MMA fighter = more skillful sport.

Lastly I’d like to discuss, Tournaments.  This is the single reason why MMA has destroyed boxing, when you have a kick ass MMA tournament going, there is nothing better. Especially when all the fights are in the same night. The UFC has gotten away from there tournaments due to legal reasons here in the states, but those crazy slantly eyes overseas are still going  strong.  Imagine if you will an 8 man tournament all taking place in one night, you have a fighter who just went through a 3 round war, who has to get up and fight again, nothing speaks better to the conditioning of a MMA fighter.  I still dream of the day when the UFC holds another tournament overseas somewhere; I could just imagine the amazingness of such things.

So after you’ve read this I will assume you have all decided that I am correct in that MMA is by far a better sport than Boxing, and in fact that boxing is actually gay.  Now I know I can’t win everyone over, so if you have beef with me, we can take it to the cage, where I will systematically make you my bitch, and show you through brute force and raw super sexy aggression, that MMA is better. Now go get daddy a beer, its fight time.

UFC 97: Redemption

Alright you wanna be cage fighters, get ready to get your face fucked, cause the UFC is back in Canadia, and they aren’t queering around.

Middleweight champ Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites

Anderson the Spider Silva is back to defend his title, not only as the raining UFC middle weight champion, but as the Pound for Pound king of MMA. Silva is 23-4 during his career in MMA, and he’s 8-0 in the UFC.  Silva is known for his fierce striking.  Leites who’s basically being thrown to the dogs in this one, he’s 14-1, winning his last 5 in the UFC. Leites only loss coming in the UFC by decision. He’s not known for being great at any one thing, but he is an all around good fighter.  Still he doesn’t have the skill set to beat Anderson in this fight.  Silva is really best known for dismantling fighters quick.  I don’t see much of a difference here. Personally if Leites wants a chance in this fight he’s going to have to take it to the ground and hope he can catch Silva in a submission, that being said, Silva in the 1st.

Anderson Silva via TKO in the 1st.chuckrua

Chuck Liddell vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

One of the most exciting fights for the UFC in quite a while. This fight pits Chuck Liddell the former UFC light heavyweight champion against former Pride Fighting Championship mega star Mauricio Rua.  Rua has been on a bad slide as of late, even after his victory against a 40 something Mark Coleman at UFC 93.  Liddell however is no spring chicken, coming off a disgusting knock out loss to Rashad Evans, the current UFC light heavyweight champ.  This fight means a lot to both fighters, as the president of the UFC Dana White has said that Chuck is not safe from getting the pink slip.  Thus it brings us to the fight term, “win or go home“. I believe that if Rua losses this match to chuck he WILL be cut by the UFC.  The funny thing about that is that 3 years ago Rua was considered number 1 or 2 in the pound for pound greatest MMA fighters. He demolished such names as Alistair Overeem, Kevin Randleman, Ricardo Arona, Antonio Noguera, Quinton Rampage Jackson, and Babalu Sobral. Rua has literally beaten a who’s who of top MMA fighters, yet right now many people can’t say he will win this fight against an old ass washed up Chuck Liddell. This is do in part to his piss poor performance against Mark Coleman and Forrest Griffin.  Chuck has seen his hay day in this sport, but I think it’s passed him by now, however I think Chuck will take this due to Rua no longer roiding his ass off. Chuck has a much better gas tank than Rua and I think this fight will make it to the 3rd.

Chuck Liddell via KO in the 3rdsoszynski_krzysztof_zuffa_400small_brianstann

Krzystof Soszynski vs. Brian Stann

Krzysztof “the polish experiment” Soszynski (yes that’s his real nickname), who will be referred to as Kris, because he name is to fucking difficult to spell over and over, is making his return to the octagon after his first win in the UFC over 4 months ago.  Kris is an Ultimate Fighter Alumni, he is a great fighter and coming in with one goal, just win.  Brian “the all American”Stann (yes… I know) is a former WEC star, and Light heavyweight champion.  Stann is 6-1, with all 6 wins coming by way of KO, and all coming in the first round. His only loss was his last fight to Steve Cantwell, who was the former light heavyweight champ himself, and fighting on this same card as well.  Kris certainly has much more all around skill in the ring. Stann is known for his KO power and he uses it well, this should be an interesting match-up of styles. I think Kris takes this one, because he can take a punch, and that’s what Stann is going to come in and try to do, punch the big polish guy’s face.  I think Stann will gas in the first round, lose the 2nd, and get subbed in the 3rd.

Krzysztof “The Polish Experiment” Soszynski via Rear Naked Choke in the 3rdhardonk kongo1

                                           Cheick Kongo vs. Antoni Hardonk

Their isn’t much to say about this fight, Kongo who is personally one of my favorite fighters, not because of his skill but, due to the fact that he’s a 6″7 black man who speaks French, and his name is Kongo. This fight is typical of his past fights, the UFC has been feeding Kongo weak ass opponents for a while now, and this is no exception. IT is believed that if Kongo wins he will be next in line for a title shot against the winner of Brock Lesnar/Frank Mir.  Personally their isn’t many others in that division that I could make the case for besides Kongo, he’s beaten most of the lower tier guys in that  division but hasn’t really been tested, but he’s beaten most of them in pretty impressive fashion, he’s a former Kick boxer and his stand-up really can’t be beat in the HW division, however his ground game is horrid, if I were to rank it, he would get 10 out of 10 for standup, and negative 5 out of 10 for his ground game.  Hardonk is a joke, and I won’t even go into how he could win, because honestly I don’t ‘think it’s possible.

Kongo via TKO in the 2nd.cantwellcane

Luis Cane vs. Steve Cantwell

This is certainly and interesting match-up, you have 2 fighters here who are coming off very impressive wins. Cane back in October destroyed “The African Assassin” Sokoujou, and Cantwell most recently ripped a guys arm out of it’s socket… yes, you heard right, he won by Arm out of socket submission.  Anywho, both are young fighters, both with fewer than 10 fights in their careers, and both with a lot to prove in the stacked Light Heavyweight division.  Cantwell was a WEC fighter, and most recent Light Heavyweight champion for that organization.  Cantwell has certainly proved himself as the more well rounded fighter, however Cane, has won all but one of his fights in the first round.  This is a hard one to predict, but personally I give the nod to Cantwell, as a former champ and more well rounded fighter, Cane is good, but he last fought back in October, that’s a 6 month layoff were as Cantwell is only coming off 3.

StrikeForce: Shamrock VS Diaz

Posted on 07 April 2009

Tags: Cyborg, fighting, Frank Shamrock, Kimbo Slice, MMA, Nick Diaz, preview, UFC

StrikeForce on Showtime

Howdy bitch’s, get ready for some ass whopping action, because strikeforce is back and loaded with some brand new fighters for your face!

Main Card Bouts:

frank_shamrock6a00d8349f951869e200e5536db2758833-320pi – Frank Shamrock vs. Nick Diaz

Frank Shamrock, brother of Ken shamrock, UFC and MMA legend.  Frank shamrock, who is 100 times better than his shitty brother, Ken.  Frank is 23-9, with his last fight over a year ago against top 10 MW Cung Le.  Frank lost that bought due to BROKEN ARM.

Many people thought Frank could have won that fight if it kept going.  Frank is going up against Nick Diaz, bad ass from Stockton California. Nick 18-7, is a Brazilian jiu jitsu beast, but his hands are just as killer.  This fight is going to be an all out war, anything involving Diaz always is, he talks a lot of shit (of course he’s from Stockton) but he backs it up. This fight is going to be at a catch weight of 178 lbs, Diaz normally fights at 170, and shamrock at 185, so he will come in a bit bigger, but I don’t think it will have much effect.  A lot of people are picking Shamrock here, but I’m going with Diaz in the 2nd by submission. I think him and Shamrock will battle it out the first, but Diaz can take a punch to his face like no one’s business. Honestly though, how can I pick against the hometown kid in Diaz… maybe I am a bit biased

Diaz via submission in the 2nd

9_lg1-140- Gilbert Melendez vs. Rodrigo Damm

Honestly I don’t know much about Damm, from what I read and do know he’s a solid fighter but with not a whole lot of experience. Gilbert Melendez is a very good lightweight fighters, he has beaten a lot of big names over in Japan, and has certainly cemented himself as a title shot contender, hell this fight was supposed to be for the title, but Josh Thompson the raining champ broke his pussy bone and couldn’t man up for the fight.  Anyways, I think Gilbert takes this one, but maybe not as easily as some people have said, I’m saying it’s going to take Melendez 3 rounds to finish this fight.

Melendez via Unanimous decision

cris_cyborg_santoshitomiakanomartialarts- Christiane “Cyborg”  vs. Hitomi Akano

Fucking chick fight gets 3rd billing on the main card? What the hell is that about? Cyborg is a man in an 18 year old boy’s body; she scares my cock away when I look at a picture of her. I don’t understand how her husband, yes husband, is married to her and hasn’t gotten his balls ripped out yet.

None the less Hitomi is a pretty solid submission wrestler, racking up 14 wins most by Decision or arm bar, sadly, she may have her face ripped off during the fight, Cyborg is like an autistic child with super strength, the only thing that will be worth watch in this fight will the be cut away to Gina Carano in the stands watching the fight, man she’s hot.. It’s too bad her next fight will probably be against the hippo looking cyborg.

Cyborg via Rape Choke in the 1st

benji_radach_prev107773_zitmpuazvv_large- Benji Radach vs. Scott Smith

This fight is pretty interesting; you have Radach who just beat Ninja Rua in his last outing for the now defunct Elite XC. Radach was a “star” in the short lived IFL a few years back, but no one, and I mean NO ONE, say him beating Ninja Rua.  Smith is coming of his back to back fights with Robbie Lawler, who was a paper champ for the aforementioned Elite XC, Smith is a UFC vet, and was even on The ultimate fight a couple season ago.

Smith I would say has the edge in fighting better fighters, but Radach is riding really high off his last victory he really had no business getting.  HOWEVER! I think Smith will take this one, personally I feel Radach may be coming in a little over hyped over his win against Rua, for that I this Scott Smith will win this, but it will be an exciting battle.

Scott Smith via split decision

brett-rogers-09rhumphrey- Brett Rogers vs. Ron Humphrey

Rogers, or as I like to call him, Uncle Brett, is a massive black man with a Mohawk, need I say more? Both fighters are undefeated, and both fighters have won all their fights in the first round by KO… so I’m going out on a limb here and saying Rogers by Submission in the late 3rd… yeah fucking right… this fight will end in the first, probably at about the 2 minute mark, and Uncle Brett will KO Ron.. On a side note, Ron Humphrey, really? That’s what your parents named you? Ron fucking Humphrey? Who are you a door to fucking door salesman in the 80′s?

Jesus Christ … Ron fucking Humphreys

Rogers via KO in 1st round.
