Ban on Happy Meals!?

Posted on 15 August 2010

In a time where almost everyone in the US is a fatty, government is taking the steps to ‘do whats best for us’.  First step… Banning Happy meals and other fast food packages that entice kids like a trenchcoated man with a lollipop.  The plan is being proposed in San Francisco, and the ban will also enlarge itself to encompass ANYTHING with too much sugar, fat or salt.  Right now the only location with anything like this would be the local government of Santa Clara County.  But San Francisco cant let someone be more progressive and liberal than them!  That’s just crazy!

The legislation in Santa Clara only applies to unincorporated areas and doesn’t affect ALL restaraunts.  Whats being proposed in San Fran would affect everything, not just Mcdonalds hapy meals.  Jack in the Box, Burger King, Taco Bell etc.  The reasoning behind this was explained further by the biggest sponsor of the legislation, Eric Mar… “It will help protect the public’s health, reduce costs to our health care system and promote healthier eating habits.”

The ‘Healthy Meal’ legislation (haha, see not ‘happy’, but ‘healthy’.. those clever bastards in the governement) wants to set specific nutritional standards for any meals that come with toys.  So when Fatty Mclittlekid, throws a tantrum with mommy and daddy for a Happy Meal, hes getting a meal with veggieburgers, and fruit.  Say bye-bye to fries…

Not much to do with anything... but it still makes me laugh.

So what are we supposed to think about this??  Happy that kids may eat healthier through fast foodrestaraunts? Or pissed off that government is tightening the noose on our freedoms neck?  In one hand kids are obese and developing ridiculous fat related diseases by puberty and the parents arent doing shit about it and most likely suffering from diabetes themselves.  People have low self control… if they can get away with collecting an unemployment check, eating fast food daily, and not moving from a couch, THEY WILL.  Do I think government should tell us what we can eat?  Tell us if we can smoke? Tell us if we can or cannot perform sodomy on a consenting adult?   NO.  We are supposed to be free and able to make our own choices.  If a kid turns into a blimp, then take the fucking kid away!  Put him in a fat camp/foster home.  Parents should be taking care of their kids, and helping them avoid a steady diet of lard, soda and fast food.  If they cant do that, just like if they cant stop them from doing drugs, or leaving them in dangerous situations, then take them away until the parent gives a shit.

All in all, if they outlaw using toys to entice kids to eat at fast food spots its no sweat off my sack.  It may help little kids, and avoid the marketing trap that fast food companies have cleverly created, but at what cost?  Trans fats have been made illegal, soon kiddie toys in meals, people are suing companies for ‘making them fat’… it’s a double edged sword, damned if you do, damned if you don’t.  Could this lead to governments monitoring peoples food intake and waist lines?  Who knows?  What do you think?

Ugh! Once again the weak ruin it for the strong. People with self control that can enjoy things with with some restraint are punished because the weak cant. GOD JUST WALK THEM OFF A CLIFF!!!!!

Hurm…well I don’t think it matters what they do. Kids and parents will find someway to get fast food and cause childhood obesity. If their kids cant get a happy meal then they will get a Big Mac, or maybe just go get a pizza or something. Yeah they wont be getting a toy, but that wont stop anyone from getting their “fix of fast food.” Im a chunky girl but as a child I was always thin and never ate fast food. Its just the lifestyle and getting our asses off the couch and the burger off our plates. Like DANNY said “Self control.”

That picture of the chick giving Ronald Mcdonald head is fantastic. LOL

Also, I think this is a good legislation. Lets try to do something to help kids, because who hasnt heard the little kids yelling ‘mommy i want that flintstones toy in the happy meal’ or whatever the hells in it. Go ahead and pass it.

I’ve got two kids and we eat at McD’s when we are strapped for time and need a quick munch. Both of my kids are lean and fit because we don’t eat every freakin meal out. Moderation is the key. We are simplyfying a problem by saying that eliminating the toy will reduce a kid’s waistline. Most parent’s are lazy as hell and are looking for a quick, inexpensive solution to mealtime. If it only took a toy to entice people to buy a product, the WNBA could sell out every game.
At the end of the day, this is America and we have the right to make choices even if some aren’t great. I don’t like the idea of government intervention for lifestyles choices. If they ban toys, why not ban tobacco? we all know we shouldn’t smoke. You know why they don’t ban tobacco? Because it is a fucking huge tax cash cow.

Why don’t these same people ban gay sex? This would help reduce the chance of sexually transmitted HIV. I want less government.

Ahhh the trying to stay healthy. Great info here. The biggest key there is to start off young, and stay fit. Way more simple to maintain it then to get it again.

This is ridiculous. If obesity is such a problem maybe they should be looking at ways to get kids to get out and enjoy exercising more rather than pullin out the banhammer on lifes little pleasures. They could also just flat out ban High Fructose Corn Syrup. It’s not something we actually need for making food. It’s just that its much cheaper to make and our health suffers because of it.
