Well holy shitballs.. The 2009 NCAA Women’s Division I Basketball
Championships commenced March 21, 2009 and will conclude April 7. Because of this, opening day for MENS baseball on April 5th is being pushed to ESPN2, so that women’s basketball can be televised on ESPN.
Before continuing further, I’d like to exclaim… “What the fuck?”
Since when did women’s sports at any point in their season, up to and including world championship games, supersede any men’s sports?
At ANY TIME Ill be watching the Bi-regional Minnesota curling opening day rather than a women’s championship of “insert sport here”. This may sound blatantly sexist, and I’m not one to dodge accusations so yes. Yes it is. Its also the truth. A pre-season football game beats the ratings, hell a draft day for football can beat a women’s championship game. This all leads me to, what the hell ESPN, what in the HELL!?
Sure Ill still be able to watch the opening day of baseball, I’ve got a simple
cable package that includes ESPN channels, and I don’t have to watch the women’s Final Four. But that’s not the point, the point is how in gods name is women’s basketball superseding the MLB? Did the steroids scandal devastate it that bad? Did the Venezuelan sweat shops that raised Alex Rodriguez finally kill a kid from overexertion!?
What happened? Someone tell me. Please.

because baseball blows my ass.
even a child knows it’s so slow and boring. watch a real sport like the WNBA
Yea, we know that the only reason people watch womens basketball is because we get to see women play with balls. Women that wouldnt normally like balls, but on this court they do.
This is just the same typical BS that you can expect from “the Four Letters” known as ESPN. They won’t put on TV what more people will watch, only what they want more people to watch. They will get behind something and sell the hell out of it only if they are invested in it (in this case, the NCAA Split-Tail Basketball Tournament).
A perfect example was this year’s Duke-UNC rivalry series. The first time they renewed “the best rivalry in college basketball” this year it was all over SportsCenter day and night for a week leading up to the primetime Saturday spot on ESPN and ESPNHD. The second time they played, there was barely the slightest mention of the game during the week leading up to the Saturday contest. Why? Because the game was on CBS.
A bunch of huge lesbians tripping over each other in the name of “sport” will never be bigger in this country than the American Pasttime. But if you’re not careful, ESPN might try to convince you otherwise.
I watched the game, and it actually got a little boring, but they came back at the end and made the bottom of the ninth pretty interesting. Derek Lowe is looking pretty good. Seriously though, they advertised the fucking womens basketball DURING THE BASEBALL GAME. They advertised it on their own damn station. I agree with Brett, they really do wanna ram this shit down our throat.
correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t baseball just as exciting as women’s hockey?
to be honest basketball is not my thing to begin with. I was only able to stomach a few min of womens basketball if that.. But, looking at it from a womans point of view they just want a chance. It will be a complete disaster but then hopefully espn will come to the conculsion that their rates might go down and then everything will go back to normal and you guys will have your channel back.
