Look, im not one to use the site for big motivations or for a higher cause… I just want to have some fun and do some jokes, mock pop culture, etc etc. but Ive been getting emails up the ass about the Iranian bloggers.
The BBC says that Iran has begun electronic jamming, such as BBC’s World News and Persian TV channels. Yahoo Messenger has been blocked by Iranian authorities, and the Revolutionary Guard also ordered Iranian websites and blogs to remove any material that might rock the boat after the post-election bullshit. The Revolutionary guard is Iran’s elite group answering to the “supreme leader” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Iranian government wont let foreign media leave their offices to report on the street protests either.
Facebook and twitter have been HUGE for these guys, and security forces are hunting for these guys using location and timezone searches. So if we all become Iranians, it becomes much harder to find them.
The tech saavy Iranians, which aren’t many, are trying like hell to get videos/articles/pictures uploaded to internet so lets help these guys.
So if you’ve kept reading, heres a simple way to help protect them and help information to keep getting out… and that is…
If you have twitter, or facebook you can change your twitter settings so that your location is Tehran and your time zone is GMT +3.30.
Just go to your settings and BAM… time zone is right there.
The reason to do this is because Security forces are hunting for bloggers using location and timezone searches. If we all become Iranians then its harder to catch the ones getting information out. Iranians are uploading and getting all the videos and information they can up, even combating the blocking of all the info by authorities. So help these guys show everyone whats happening and don’t let them get blocked out.

please consider taking the following steps to support the Iranian Freedom movement:
1. Show your support by changing your profile picture on Twitter to the color green by clicking Settings >Design>Change Design Colors>Background>009933. (This may seem trivial, but Iranians have said every bit of support matters in keeping them going)
2. Help conceal Iranian activists who are on Twitter from the secret police by changing your location to Tehran, Iran and your timezone to Tehran (GMT +3:30).
3. Set up proxy servers to help ensure that Iranians can stay connected to the outside world-

4. Encourage the President to send a subtle and plausibly deniable sign of support to the Iranian Freedom movement by wearing a simple green tie at some point during the week. Do this by tweeting:

This is all news to me, never heard of any of this blogging stuff.
Steve brings up a good point: Why help them? What have they done to make us like them?
Well I’ll tell you why. One of the few great things that sets us apart from the WORLD is our compassion, especially for those who are defenseless. We don’t help others for political gain or some kind of self righteous bull shit (I may be speaking for myself on that one) but because we don’t kill mercilessly and for some higher power, we respect life and the right to live. I would say more deep shit but it would go against the point I am trying to make. Do what feels right even if you think/know it’s wrong.

Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand they hate us, but on the other hand they’re getting abused.

Seriously though, this is the conundrum that I have come upon in my many seconds of meditation on the subject:
If we “help” out these oppressed people, the rest of the country will end up hating us even more because at the moment there is not enough progressive thinking to actually take arms against a tyrannical government. It is important for us to wait until blood has been shed. Freedom is not given or received, it is yearned for and fought for at a national scale. If we go in there now and remove the current government, we’ll be giving them choices they never wanted to die for. They won’t know what to do with it.
