Halo Wars Review

haloarmySince the creation of the Xbox in 2001 Halo has been the premier game for it.  I still remember thinking the original Halo was the greatest thing ever made, because I was in college and having thousands of heavily intoxicated multiplayer battles.  Not only the 3 a.m. battles were awesome, but the story line and graphics have been the ultimate at the time they were released, so when I heard of Halo wars, I was in.

Unlike the regular Halo everyone is used to, this game is a real time strategy game, not a first person shooter.  So instead of bull rushing into 10 guys and trying to kill as many and last as long as you can… this time you actually have to think, which for a huge Halo fan might be tough.  Halo is meant to be an A.D.D, instant gratification type game and this new style calls for a little intelligence, and strategy.  I believe this was well known by Ensemble Studios, the developer of the game, and taken into account when constructing it.  So they made it simpler and designed the missions pretty tight, and its not as in depth and insanely free as Starcraft or Command and Conquer.  So if its your first time playing a RTS game, then your in luck because its retard friendly, and A.D.D. friendly as well.  It keeps the action happening and you don’t have to pause the game every 10 seconds to figure out a map, or set up buildings for the sole purpose of giving your town paper or something homosexual like that.  You flat out build an army and destroy the enemy.. simple, bare bones RTS… me likey.

Halo Wars was built brand spanking new for the Xbox 360 so the controls aren’t something taken from a nerdy PC game with 5,000 unique combinations of buttons to take action.  Halo Wars can be dictated in almost every way with only 2 buttons to take action.  Morons, and people who want instant gratification rejoice… It also has awesome explosions and graphics for the battles and makes you want to kill somebody yourself, but in a friendly gaming kind of way.  More than just cool looking gameplay, there is also a top notch quality cut away every time you beat a level.  So this adds another level to the game, and gives you another epic story to follow which is cool for any Halo fan.  The story isn’t quite as bad ass as the original, but its still cool to have the epic beginnings to the trilogy we like.

Although its friendly for a beginner its still fun for any Halo player, and still allows for good gameplay.  Who wouldn’t like bombing evil aliens with a 600 TON ROUND OF AMMO.  C’mon, even the pussiest person alive would enjoy that.  Its also got the legendary multiplayer that everybody needs with a Halo game, and in multiplayer the game opens up and loosens the tightness it has in the campaign mode.  Also unlike the campaign mode you can be the Covenant.

All in all, Halo Wars is definitely an entertaining game sticking pretty closely to the way halo fans like a game, with the strategy of an RTS.  The developer sacrificed a lot of depth to make for an easy and fun control system, but it wasn’t a huge sacrifice for anyone new to this type of game.  So in the end I reccomend this game to anyone, except die-hard nerdy RTS guys who appreciate the “realism” in building a library for his citizens to read… why dont you build a bath house, so your game people can go have dirty anal sex with each other… prick.

Master Chief is a whore. Master Chief is a hooker. Why don’t they make a real game instead of use characters from the previous millennium multiplied three hundred times?

Will Bungie snub their nose at Microsoft and remake Marathon?

I loved the Halo Wars demo! I’ll probably go out and buy this game because I am a big Halo fan. It looks like this is the type of game I could play for a while without getting too bored! Nice review and nice blog too!
